A Non-Crafty Post about Clothing

I posted this on Facebook and got a slightly different response than I was expecting. Not entirely, but sort of.

“I just have to get this out there. Clothes are not a covering of shame. They are a covering of immaturity. But we're teaching our daughters all wrong. CLOTHING IS A GLORY. A scantily clad girl is a high maintenance one, like a toddler who likes to lift her shirt and show you her belly button. Adam and Eve wore clothes after they ate the fruit because it was then that they suddenly grew up and realized they weren't dressed to be the king and queen of the world. It was after they grew up that they finally were joined and had children. Anyhow, all this to say, we're teaching our girls totally backwards when we teach them to just cover all the important parts. No wonder our daughters get caught up in the dos and don'ts and try to judge each other's motives for dressing. Am I crazy in thinking this? Really, I'm trying to have a soft heart here, so I'll try not to overreact if somebody cares to comment and disagree...”

Hair Bows for Valentines

Whipped out some little fabric bows for some Valentines this year. Super fast and easy! 

Basically like this. 

Pink and Grey

I was so blessed to be asked to make a baby quilt for a friend's little girl due this summer. She picked out some great fabrics and sent a picture of something similar to what she wanted and I got to take it from there! I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out! (Forgive the little wrinkles. I knew it was about to be rolled up and that ironing it again would really be pointless.)

Car Seat Makeover

My mom was here a couple weeks ago and it's kind of amazing how much more productive I am when she's around. ;-) We had two sewing projects, both unnecessary, but I am SO THANKFUL that we were able to do them! So much more cheerful.

The old car seat was a minty green and very pale orange, with brown binding. It arrived in the mail a week before the little man was due, so I didn't want to risk returning it even though it was most definitely *not* the color scheme I had thought I was purchasing.

We saved the brown binding, but went a little more cheery on the rest:

Baby Tutorials and Links

Headbands

Yesterday my little sisters-in-law and I started working on some reversible headbands. This was my little girl size tester. I started with the template from Happy Together (love this blog, btw!). We made the band a little skinnier and a smidge shorter for the smaller heads. This one turned out great!
