  1. I really like your love knot tutorial. Can you give directions for how much fabric we need for just the table runner? The directions are for a quilt and call for a full jelly roll.

    Thank you!

    1. Yes! I used a smidge over 1/2 yd. to cut out 2 16" squares, then cut diagonally. 1/3 yd for binding (4 strips 2 1/2" wide). And 1 1/4 yd. for backing (you'll lay the runner top diagonally). I'd love to see a picture when you've finished!!

    2. Ah, I lied. I hope it hasn't been an inconvenience to you already. Make that (2) *12"* squares, cut diagonally for setting traingles. Sorry...

  3. Hi Leah, I REALLY love your love knot block, it is SO awesome! My (Irish) Dad is retiring this spring, and I have been looking for the perfect gift....and I think a love knot quilt in greens to nap under is 'the' gift! I am wondering if the block would still work without trimming down the jelly roll strips? Or would that throw the block out of whack? I have spent the last two days trying to figure this out on my own, but as I: a)have never made one of these blocks, I can't wrap my mind around how they go together and how leading the strips wider would affect them, and b)I am absolutely abysmal at math! I'm thinking that leaving the strips whole would result in a bigger block, which would be great as I want to make a fairly big quilt, and it would result in less waste. Thanks for your time,
    Jen

    1. Jen, that sounds fantastic! What a fun idea. And YES you can use the 2 1/2" jelly roll strips as they are. It just means your block will end up being 22" square, which is pretty big (the size of an unfolded dinner napkin). But like you said, it will just make it easier to make a bigger quilt. I will warn you, it takes me about 45 minutes to piece just one block. So bigger is probably better. :) You will also need more white/background fabric as well, so keep that in mind too. I would LOVE to see a picture of it when it's all finished!!

    2. Yay, that's great to know! So I won't have to change any of the measurements? Except, of course that the fabric is 2.5" instead of 1.5". I am so bad at math, the thought of having to change proportions is super intimidating! So I bought an Origins jelly roll and a Moda basics white jelly roll, I think it'll turn out to be very 'Irish' looking. Thanks so much Leah!

    3. Well, a lot of measurements will be different. Let's see... For one of the four outside twists on the knot block, you will need
      2 rectangles measuring 2 1/2" x 6 1/2"
      1 rectangle 2 1/2" x 8 1/2"
      1 rectangle 2 1/2" x 10 1/2"
      1 square 2 1/2" x 2 1/2"

And for that square part that makes the center of the knot you will need
      4 rectangles 2 1/2" x 6 1/2"
      8 squares 2 1/2" x 2 1/2"

For white background fabric you will need
      8 rectangles 2 1/2" x 4 1/2"
      21 squares 2 1/2" x 2 1/2"
